PRESS RELEASE

NOSTALGIA AND ADIEUS

AT THE ATAMURA CENTER FOR ARTS AND CULTURES

The Altamura Arts Center, 404 Winter Clove Rd, Round Top, New York, Oct 17/21, at 3:30 pm, will present its final performance.  The offerings will feature, international artists from China, Tenor, Fanyong Du; German Soprano Katrin Bulke; upcoming soprano Alessia Pizza; pianist Cristina Altamura and percussionist extraordinaire, David Degge, among others.

Our Center has been a mecca for scores of celebrated artists, singers, playwrights, pianists, ballet dancers, actors, and orchestras.   Among the legends is Anton Copp.3

6666ola.  Who can forget him conducting in The Godfather epic movie, the Broadway musical, Brigadoon, and The Sound of Music?  Luminaries include movie star Celeste Holm; Bass Jerome Hines, Soprano Licia Albanese, and mezzo-soprano Giulietta Simionato; Both luminaries gave masterclasses at the Altamura Center.  The Legendary artists taught and inspired numerous winners of our competition in the “Encounters with The Master’s Program, a vehicle which passes on the unwritten traditions of the great masters.  Conductor, Karel Mark Chichon got his start at our Altamura Center and is now conducting at the Metropolitan Opera.   In June 2022, he will be conducting Giuseppe Verdi’s “Rigoletto”.

Several editions of the Altamura/Caruso International Voice Competition took place at the Altamura Center from which the winners and finalists were born and are now delighting audiences in opera houses like the Metropolitan Opera, Chicago Lyric, The Bolshoi, and La Scala, among others.

The little Company that could, opened doors for talents from all over the world.  Energized by her deep faith in what the great masters taught, “Do not wait for resources, rather, use what you have now” and quickened by this belief, Carmela embarked on the road less travelled.

The Arts Center founded by Carmela and Leonard Altamura opened its doors in the year 2000.  Heart-felt gratitude goes out to all supporters and friends, most of all to Carmela’s husband, Leonard Altamura who spared no costs for the productions.   He too believed and taught the anonymous words, “Dream your dreams and do your best, never doubt and never rest until that dream is yours”.

Daughter, accomplished pianist/teacher, Cristina Altamura is carrying on the Altamura legacy.  On October 17, joined by David Degge, percussionist extraordinaire, they are sure to delight an audience arriving from the tri-state area.  The Center, now on sale, is presently handled by area real estates.

Tickets are $40.  FOR RESERVATIONS, 201-863-8724   Masks are required.
